Follow the Money: The Rotary Foundation
The Rotary Foundation is proud of its distinguished four-star ranking from institutions such as Charity Navigator, which recognizes The Rotary Foundation as one of the select foundations that gives away nearly 100% of its collected contributions.
Here's how it works...
Contributions from any one year are invested for three years before being allocated for programs. Investment earnings are used for administrative costs.
After the three year investment period, 50% of the donated funds from three years earlier are returned to the Rotary districts from which they came. Those contributions are used for local projects as determined by the clubs and the district. The other 50% is used for World Fund programs.
Here is an example (these are the most recent data available prior to the close of Rotary Year 2017-18):
The 2017-18 fiscal year was another successful one for The Rotary Foundation, leaving it financially strong to do good in the world. Contributions to the Annual Fund surpassed US$131 million. In Rotary year 2020-21, 50% of those dollars will be returned to the district from which it came; over US$65 million for our District 5320.. The other $US65+ million will be used through the World Fund to support projects like Global Grants. Total contributions to TRF in RY 2017-18 was over US$341 million (2016-17 US$304+ million; 2015-16 US$268+ million).
For Rotary year 2016-17, District 5320 alone contributed over US$384,000.00. Therefore, in this current Rotary year 2019-20, District 5320 will be receiving, from TRF, an amount of money in excess of US$192,000 DDF (District Designated Funds) for use by our District 5320 and by our District’s clubs.
Our District 5320 may use its DDF to fund the District portion of Global Grants, District Grants, or any number of a variety of scholarships and/or a humanitarian grants/projects at the discretion of the District leadership with input from the clubs.
The good that Rotary does in the community, the state, the country and around the world is truly multi-level, multi-faceted, deep and far reaching. “Awe inspiring” would certainly be a fair and appropriate term to use to describe Rotary’s work.
Wouldn’t you think EVERYONE would want to become a Rotarian if only someone told them about Rotary and gave them the opportunity to make a difference / lend a hand / and lead the way? Someone encouraged you to become a Rotarian, why don’t you pass on that good deed by encouraging someone else?
